Remember a few years back, when Michael Jordan was everywhere? He was probably the only sports star in the history of the world who was universally admired; like the ad jingle, we all wanted to be like Mike. You still can’t be like Mike, but you can buy his former ride if your bank account is big enough. Up for sale on eBay is Jordan’s 2007 special edition Mercedes-Benz SLR 722, with a “Buy It Now” price of just $429,990.00. That’s steep, but the SLR isn’t exactly an everyday ride, and McLaren isn’t cranking out any more.
This particular 722 edition SLR has less than 1,000 miles on it, and it’s under warranty until next August. The 722 edition made a few more ponies than the base model, so Mike’s car should be good for 650 horsepower and a zero to sixty time of about 3.5 seconds, on its way to a top speed of 209 miles per hour. It also had lighter wheels, stiffer shocks and a reduced ride height, so it’ll be quicker through the canyons than a standard SLR as well. It’ll be quicker than a lot of other cars as well, if that helps you justify the purchase.
You’ve got until Halloween to raise the cash if you’re interested, because I doubt very much you’ll be able to get a car loan that’s pushing half a million dollars these days.
