Ridelust Review: 2013 BMW X6 M
New cars have so many wonderful features don’t they. We’ve got everything from satellite navigation, to heated seats, to climate control systems that are more complex than the ones in our homes. Look at the list of standard features on today’s new cars and you’ll see that they are leaps and bounds above cars from just 10 years ago. Granted so are the prices, but in today’s world of dollars and cents, that shouldn’t surprise anyone. I would guess that in total I use about 80% of the features in my car, and or in the cars I’m testing. Things like the navigation system, power seats, stereo, climate controls and power windows get used all the time. But then there are things like that little pass-through compartment that goes from the trunk into the car, or the electric fold away mirrors… I never use those things. However if there is one sucker that I have never, EVER used, it’s the emergency latch in the trunk. Seriously, what am I smuggling in, illegals from across the border or something? In fact in the annals of automotive history, I bet that goes down as the single most unused item ever. I’m going to go on the assumption that most of you agree with me, but if you don’t, pipe up because I’d like to hear what you think.

the back window wiper… its on a vertical pane of glass so why do i need to wipe it?
that little pass through is for SKIS and its the best feature on a car sometimes.
you mean the feature on all cars that utterly suck in snow?
I thought the trunk release what a safety feature mandate set forth by the govt in the late ’90s early ’00s…
It is… but that doesn’t mean it’s not useless. Seriously, have you ever had anyone in your trunk before?
You only see its utility when you need it…
it would be useless until we find ourselves in the back of someone’s trunk !!
it’s just a safety feature. Else the fire extinguisher is quite useless… until the car catches fire lol
autolamp feature automaticly turns lights off for you and turns them on when you start the car, never use it.
10 disc CD changer in my 2000 town car. just a huge weight in the trunk.
I noticed my friend’s Mercedes has a push button trunk release that blinks a green light. I guess they wanted to make a change from the normal pull handle? After all… it is a Mercedes.
I know someone that suffered severe brain damage when he was carjacked and thrown in the trunk of his own car. He was one of the reasons that the trunk releases exist. If he’d had a car with a trunk release, he’d probably be okay today.
All of the “safety” features that keep people from actually learning how to drive.
I wouldn’t call the trunk release just a “feature”, I reckon it’s more of a safety feature, intended for rather inopportune situations, rather than selling more cars.
I own a Dodge Neon with the trunk release handle. I tell you what that thing came in handy when the latch handle on the trunk broke. I think that little glow in the dark piece was used more than the back seats. And I thank Dodge for putting it in.
