This has got to be the cheapest way to shave seconds off you lap times, at least on your PlayStation 3. If you’re like me and favor a controller over a steering wheel and pedals for gaming, the HKS Racing controller makes good sense.
The left side directional buttons are replaced by a thumbwheel with a center notch to indicate straight line steering. I’ll check one out as soon as I can and let you know if it has a spring return to center as well, which would make sense.
On the right hand side, the square and x buttons are replaced by miniature throttle and brake pedals. The second joystick is eliminated and replaced with the directional buttons from the left thumb area. I didn’t see any images of the controller front , but I assume that the trigger buttons remain unchanged on both sides.
Another cool feature is the digital gauge in the center of the controller, which shows percentage of maximum for both throttle and braking. I don’t multi-task well enough to benefit from this info, but I’m sure lots of gamers with quicker reflexes will find this useful.
There’s no word yet on availability, since the controller was just shown at the E3 expo. If you get one before I do, let me know what you think.
