Joining Fiat on the list of auto makers set out to help Barbie celebrate her 50th birthday in style, Volkswagen has rolled out the pink Malibu Barbie™ New Beetle convertible. Full-scale and finished in Barbie’s signature pink, Barbie’s dream Beetle made its grand debut yesterday at Barbie’s exclusive birthday party at her Malibu Dream House in California. With even more pink per-cubic-inch than Barbie’s bedazzled Fiat 500, Barbie’s New Beetle is covered in Barbie’s signature hot pink-and-rhinestone style with a complementary white custom leather interior and convertible top, pink-accented hand stitched floor mats, and pink quilted leather lined door pockets and arm rests. Although the burden of routine maintenance will most likely fall upon the shoulders of G.I. Joe, even the custom Beetle’s oil dipstick is painted Barbie’s favorite shade of lipstick pink.

On hand to aid VW in rolling out Barbie’s new ride was life-size Barbie doll herself, Heidi Klum, who posed with the Malibu New Beetle on the custom hot pink carpet outside Barbie’s 3,500-square-foot dream home in Malibu, CA. Like Fiat, Volkswagen was extremely proud to be included on Barbie’s star-studded guest list, and was honored to take part in the American style icon’s historic birthday. “We are extremely proud to partner with Mattel and create a customized New Beetle convertible to celebrate Barbie’s landmark birthday,” said VW of America’s General Manager of Marketing, Laura Soave, “Like the New Beetle, Barbie has made a remarkable impact on pop culture history, and still remains a cultural icon today.”
