
VIDEO: SNL Parodies Big 3 Bailout Hearings, Nails Wagoner Impersonation
Recently, Saturday Night Live unleashed their creative genius on the Detroit 3 with a CSPAN sketch parodying the Senate hearings held to discuss the terms of the auto industry bailout bill. While SNL is usually pretty dead-on-balls accurate with their impersonations, I was still nonetheless surprised by their incredibly accurate depiction of Wagoner. Although it was a parody, it did a surprisingly good job of reflecting the overwhelming opinions of most auto industry employees (read: auto bloggers), in that the jabs at Ford were relatively mild and, as usual, GM appeared to be the douchiest of the 3.
My favorite part of the sketch, however, was the closing statement made by Rep. Barney Frank (D-Mass)/Fred Armistead in which he encouraged Detroit to begin producing “gayer cars, like the Mini Cooper. I think that’s adorable…”
