VIDEO: 2009 Mercedes-Benz McLaren SLR Stirling Moss, The Inspiration

When photos of the new 2009 Mercedes-Benz McLaren SLR Stirling Moss dropped last week, our first thought was “It seriously doesn’t have a windshield?” followed immediately by “Or a roof? WTF…” Reading the press release that accompanied the images provided slight clarification, explaining that modern features such as a roof and side windows had been purposely omitted in the interest of creating the most authentic SLR throwback possible while still meeting DOT standards. While we can understand Mercedes’ desire to honor racing legend Stirling Moss as well as the countless victories he stole behind the wheel of a 1955 Mercedes-Benz McLaren SLR 300, we’ll admit we’re still highly skeptical that there’s a buyers market for a $1.04 million-dollar roadster that doesn’t even come equipped with a windscreen.

Conversely, we’re suckers for any good case of automobile nostalgia (for further reference, see: Charger, Dodge), and even though the design aesthetics of the SLR Stirling Moss aren’t exactly cohesive with the sleek, aggressive bodies of the 21st century McLaren SLR, there’s something to be said for keeping a legend alive.

I want to have intercourse with this Merc/Benz. It’s actually more phallic than the E-type. Just gorgeous. Perfect proportions. The interior looks like a bit of a let down, though, in comparison. The AC vents should look like vaginas and the knobs like nipples, just to continue the theme.
