Ralph Gilles, President and CEO of Dodge Brand is not only a designer, developer and a CEO but a die-hard automobile enthusiast as well. He’s competed in such events as the One Lap of America and the Targa Newfoundland, so when it comes to the Dodge Viper and all it’s renditions he’s the guy you want to speak with. In this video he touches on the standard Viper (if you can call a 600 hp car standard), the Viper ACR and the new 2010 Viper ACR-X.
The Viper ACR-X is more of a spec race car than anything else and was built to compete in the upcoming Viper Cup Series. ViperHeadquarters.com states:
“The newly developed Dodge Viper Cup spec series and the new Dodge Viper SRT10® ACR-X are made for each other—literally. Dodge created the Viper Cup specifically as THE place for X-cars to play. Dodge has just announced the schedule and the contingency program.
The series will be sanctioned by the existing Viper Racing League. Each vehicle in the new series must be the new Viper ACR-X. The first race is not until July 2010, to give racers time to prepare”.
Understand that the Viper is Dodge’s halo car which means, it’s the bullet in their chamber and the cream in their cannoli. It’s the car, that when talked about makes journalists, enthusiasts and all manner of automotive media listen. Hopefully with the introduction of the ACR-X and the new Dodge Viper Cup series, Dodge will able to keep the Viper project moving forward.
