By this point everyone knows that Ben Collins was the tame racing driver known as “The Stig” on the BBC’s wildly popular Top Gear television show. Recently though Collins released his autobiography and in doing so revealed to the car loving world that he was in fact the man behind the helmet. By revealing himself as “The Stig” he also ran into some pretty heavy problems with the BBC, so much so that they decided to axe him from the show.
The UK also has another great automotive show in the form of Fifth Gear. A show that while not as elaborate still entertains the masses with great driving, Tiff Needell’s super power slides and all the automotive fun we could possibly want. The news here, according to Autoblog.com, is that they have now picked up Mr. Collins as a new presenter. This is a pretty ingenious move if you ask me as it’s not only going to cause some controversy, but it should give the show a great ratings boost as well. Obviously Collins will be playing himself on Fifth Gear and joining the likes of not only Tiff Needell, but Jason Plato and Vicki Butler-Henderson as well.
“I’m delighted to be joining the Fifth Gear team,” said Collins. “And I am looking forward to a new set of exciting challenges, apparently with and without the helmet.”
