Listen, like the donut, doing a burnout in an automobile is like a right of passage for a car guy. Now granted some cars are better then others, but that doesn’t change the fact that if you’ve never done one, you should come forth and turn in your “Man Card” immediately. Not only are they fun, but they’re completely irresponsible, bad for the environment and a total nuisance to all those around you. Quite honestly though… who cares. The following group of cars will let you shred pavement, incinerate tires and pollute the air quality at will. They’re also all American, because let’s face it, there are no better cars on earth to smoke the hides in then something with a big ole’ American V8.

• 2011 Cadillac CTS-V: Wagon, Coupe or Sedan

It’s got 556 hp and 550 lb-ft of torque, a six speed manual transmission and a top speed of 191 mph. It will also incinerate the tires for as long as you can keep your foot on the gas pedal. Cadillac’s CTS-V line of automobiles are brash, in your face and have an engine that could pull the continents back together if you chose to do so.

• 2011 Dodge Challenger SRT8 392

The 2011 Dodge Challenger SRT8 is probably one of the best open road GT cars on the road today. It’s comfortable, wickedly fast and will chew up miles like nobody’s business. Its 392 cu in HEMI also makes 470 hp and 470 lb-ft of torque and will produce enough tire smoke to set off every smoke detector in your neighborhood.

• 2010 Chevrolet Camaro SS

Ok, I’ll admit it, I’m not a huge fan of the new Chevrolet Camaro. However, my not being a fan has nothing to do with the fact that if you opt for the 6-speed manual transmission that you’ll be able to roast the rear tires at will. 426 hp and 420 lb-ft of torque has a habit of doing that.

• Ford Mustang GT: Any Year – wait for the surprise at the end…

The Ford Mustang GT is the granddaddy of the modern burnout, and it doesn’t matter if you’ve got one from 1979 or a 2011 cause’ they’ll all tear up the pavement. The burnout is what the Mustang is all about, even though early models were tail happy as hell (I know, I crashed one). Today’s pony’s are some of the best cars on the road today and have the ability to provide their owners with miles and miles of tire smoking fun.

• Chevrolet Corvette base model / Z06 / ZR1: 2007 and above

Think about this for a moment – right now, you CANNOT purchase a new Corvette with under 430 hp and 424 lb-ft of torque. Even in base form the Corvette is a cannon out of the gate. It’ll do 0-60 in 4.2 seconds, run the quarter mile in 12.5 and top out at 190 mph, and all for under 50k. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the burnout bargain of the century…
