Toll Booth

The Florida Department of Transportation seems to be caught up in a naughty (and unconstitutional) practice when it comes to collecting tolls. You see if you’re a minority and you pay your toll with anything larger than a $20 bill then odds are you’d be ordered to hand over personal information. If you refuse the clerk will then result to scare tactics by stating that they’ll call in local authorities. Doug Chandler, a motorist in Florida found this out all to clearly, and when he complained to the Florida Department of Transportation they simply stated there is, or never was, any such policy. This undercover video shot by Chandler shows the exact opposite and is now in the center of a pissing match between Chandler and the state. Apparently Chandler proved that the state was covering up these allegations of racial profiling by procuring internal emails that do in fact justify the existence of the program. Chandler is considering filing a class action lawsuit against the state, which if the court awards compensation, could cost them hundreds of millions of dollars.

Infuriating. I think Mr.Chandler is a hero. I also think the Florida D.O.T. needs to have their ass nailed to the wall.
