This Fourth Of July, Remember What It’s All About

Two hundred and thirty five years ago, a group of people signed their name on a document that was a single-digit salute to the status quo. Since then, our country has had its ups and downs, and I’d really like to think that the worst of the current down is behind us. Still, I can’t help but think that our founding fathers would be pretty appalled at what they see today, since politics now is more about “what’s in it for me” than “what’s best for the country”.

Politics aside, a lot of things are happening that threaten our way of living, especially those of us who like cars and motorsports. We’re about to be marginalized, since our hydrocarbon-loving way of life doesn’t fit into the tree-hugging, baby-owl-saving, anything-less-than-50-mpg-is-a-sin mold being forced on us by environmentalists and our own government.

Do yourself a favor this holiday, and go lay some rubber in your car or on your bike. Run as many gears as you can to redline before grabbing the next one. Take a drive with no destination and no regards to gas prices or fuel economy. Over the years a lot of people have given their lives to give us that privilege, and I suspect we won’t have it all that much longer. Need inspiration? The video below should help.
