Riding high on the wave of success generated by the luxury segment-fighting Hyundai Genesis, Hyundai is continuing their common-man assault on the upper class with the introduction of their new flagship sedan, the Hyundai Equus. Built on an extended wheelbase version of the Genesis i50 platform, the Hyundai Equus will expand upon the Genesis’ benchmark by offering Hyundai’s most impressive powertrain to date: a 5.0L V8 capable of churning out anywhere between 400-420 horsepower. Although as yet unconfirmed, sources also indicate that Hyundai might also be planning on introducing a supercharged 4.6L V8 and a supercharged 5.5L V8 as well.

Intended to rival comprable luxury offerings from the likes of BMW and Mercedes-Benz, the Equus will most likely come equipped with an impressive array of interior amentities, including a BMW iDrive-like driver connectivity system. Scheduled to hit the Korean market early next year, we’re still waiting to hear the final word on both the Equus’ official price and North American approval status.
