There’s Fail, And Then There’s Überfail

Posted in Bizarre, Crashes, FAIL, Funny Videos, General, Motorcycle by Kurt Ernst | July 21st, 2010 | 9 Responses |

This video, found on Two Wheels Blog, almost had me spraying coffee through my nose. I’m hoping it was a setup, but Germans typically lack the sense of humor necessary to pull off an elaborate prank like this.

To set the stage, a German news anchor is describing a new safety system designed for motorcyclists. The system, developed by TFKL Engineering, relies on a series of sensors and video cameras to communicate road hazards to a display in the rider’s helmet. The video was supposed to show a test of the safety system for the viewing audience.

Since neither the company (TFKL Engineering) nor the network (RTC) actually exist, I’m thinking this really is a gag. If any readers have additional info, I’d love to hear it.

Right on. I wouldn’t have posted it if I thought it was real. Too close to home for those of us who ride…

Def. Although I do watch crash vids every now and again to remind myself of the harsh realities involved with all things two wheeled. I get cocky, forgetful, and would rather be virtually reminded than bitch slapped by reality.

As a rider who’s been bitch slapped by reality, I’ve got to tell you it ain’t all it’s cracked up to be…

Rear tire stepped out after bad shift, right? Sounds like the high side!

Yessir. Aerostitch gives you a speed estimate based on crash damage to their suits: according to them, I crashed at “over 100 mph”. My actual speed was only 60 or so, but I chalk the rest up to rough pavement and a bad tumble.

Yow. Glad you’re here to write about it!

It is a fake, after the rider takes off you can see the edges of him get blurry where they spliced the videos together and tried to blend them. it might have fooled me had i not learned all that stuff on final cut pro. you can also see a fragment from one clip to another when the guys head is in front of the truck right before he starts running, it will appear as a black dot for a split second directly to the right of his head

It’s a myth that the Germans lack a sense of humour. I don’t know how the TV presenter managed to keep such a straight face….
