The Sound of Ecstasy…

Dodge Challenger SRT8

What sounds make the hairs on the back of your neck stand up? For some it may be the wicked riff of an electric guitar, for others it could be the sounds of a thunderstorm being unleashed. For us car guys though, it has to be the sound of a well tuned engine bellowing out of an uncorked exhaust. Some prefer the high pitched whines of Ferrari’s, others the blat-blat-blat of a Subaru flat-four. Me though… hell, I’ll take an American built push-rod V8 any day of the week. I came across this video while doing a little research on what combination of go fast goodies I want to put on my SRT8 Magnum to give it a little more umph. I mean its quick now with its 425 hp, but hey, speed is just a question of money right? Anyway, the car in this video is a Dodge Challenger SRT8 and truth be told it sounds glorious! For all you electric car people out there who are saving the planet… ya’ll have fun enjoying the silence.

There is NOTHING in this world like a good American V8. The kind that shakes your guts when they open up. Years back I jumped at the chance to take a ride in a fella’s fully restored 1966 (I think it was a ’66) Plymouth Belvedere. It was jet black, perfect inside and out and sported a blueprinted 440 Wedge. The car had old school low-back seats and when he punched that sumbitch I almost ended up in the back seat. The sound of that wide open 440 was nothing short of biblical and the sensation of feeling like I was being smeared into the backseat was cause for an ear to ear grin that lasted two days.
