Automotive Hero's

Last week I poised the question: Who is your favorite fictional automotive hero? Surprisingly we got inundated with emails and the suggestions were so damn good that I decided to put a little list together. Some of the suggestions were pretty off beat, but what I realized was that there was a whole host of characters for whom I had totally overlooked. These characters got our adrenaline flowing, made us laugh, cringe and cheer. They also range in status from a fictional Nascar legend to a drugged out journalist who was hell bent on killing convertibles. Buford T. Justice is epic.

Makes me want to watch some of these classics I’ve never actually sat down to watch.

I just stumbled over “Smokey and the Bandit” on Encore Thursday night while channel-surfing and ended up watching the whole thing for the sixth or eighth time.
    That’s a fun, fun film.
The “440-cubic-inch-plant” speech from “The Blues Brothers” is a good one, but I also like “It’s a hundred miles to Chicago. We’ve got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it’s dark, and we’re wearing sunglasses.” To which Jake replies, “Hit it.” And off they go.
