Texas Approves 85 mph Speed Limit

Cannonball Countach

Recently the great state of Texas announced that their House of Representatives has approved a new transportation bill that will enable the states Department of Transportation to bump speed limits to 85 mph. For those living in the state this is actually wonderful news, but something that unfortunately won’t be happening over night. According to Autoblog.com traffic and engineering studies must be completed to certify that the highways and interstates are capable of withstanding prolonged exposure to the increased speeds. Right now Texas already possesses the highest speed limit in the country at 80 mph, so pushing it to 85 mph shouldn’t be that big of a deal. With the current speed on most interstates throughout the country set at 70 mph, my hope is that other states, especially those that are extremely rural, will follow suit and increase their limits accordingly.

Sweet. Now if California would up the 101 to 75 MPH i’d be happy. 65 is way too slow and nobody even does that. The average is 75-80.
