Steve Saleen’s New Supercharger

SMS 570X Challenger
It’s difficult to discern what aspect of the Steve Saleen’s 570X is most significant. Not only does the Challenger seem to be Saleen’s latest automotive muse, but the SMS 570X is impressive if only because it produces a ridiculous 700 horsepower. The real story, however, is the supercharger, which Saleen promises will be available not only for other cars from Chrysler, but Ford and GM as well.

To finish off the details of the pretty package that surrounds this mighty supercharger; the SMS 570X makes these huge horsepower numbers with a 6-liter V8 that also produces 650 lb-ft of torque. The mechanical transformation into this monster includes, among other things, a Saleen six-speed transmission and a high-performance cooling package. On the outside, the 570X sports a side-induction hood and modified grille and fenders, along with a carbon fiber splitter, side skirts and spoiler.

While the supercharger comes as part of the 570X package, it will also work on other Chrysler products including the Charger, Magnum, and Chrysler 300C. In the future, SMS assures everyone that “aftermarket fitments” will be available for both Ford and General Motors products. The SMS 296 supercharger is matched up with a new intercooler called the SMS Six-Pack that uses six cylindrical intercoolers.

Mopar-haters can sleep well with the knowledge that Saleen’s most recognizable platform, the Mustang, will also be the recipient of this new application.
