This week, legendary Mustang designer Steve Saleen announced he will continue his 25 year reign as King of the Beasts with his newest edition to the fold, the 2010 Signature Series SMS 460 Mustang.

A joint venture with his new company, SMS (Steve Mark Saleen), Saleen plans to build the new SMS 460 Mustang using the 2010 Ford Mustang GT platform and integrate many of the same features found in his SMS 25th Anniversary model Mustang. Intended to be completely street legal, Saleen’s SMS 460 Mustang will feature an SMS Supercharge 4.6L engine capable of producing anywhere from 475 to 650 horsepower. In addition to extensive performance upgrades, the SMS 460 Mustang will also feature several of Saleen’s exclusive components, including Saleen’s increasingly popular (and patented) SMS Red Butterfly Induction™ hood.

Currently available for pre-ordering, the 2010 Signature Series SMS 460 Mustang will follow behind SMS’s two inaugural offerings, the SMS 570 Challenger and SMS 570X Challenger, scheduled for market release in late January 2009. Although the exact numbers are still unclear, production units of the SMS 460 Mustang will be limited when they begin rolling off the assembly line in mid-2009.
