Stereoscopic Parking Garage: I’m Freaking Out, Dude

Axel Peemoellerof Australia apparently won several design awards for the three-dimensional directional system he created inside the Eureka Tower Carpark in Melbourne, Australia. The Eureka Tower is self-described as the tallest residential building in the world as well as one of the largest building projects to use 3D Virtual BuildingTM .

Admittedly a pretty impressive design, I still picture at least 30% of the building’s parking garage patrons going, “Dude, that is some serious chronic…”

  4. It looks really cool, believable in a 2-D photo aligned perfectly, but how real do these things look in the 3-D world where you (or the car) is in motion?

    Words by C Borannon on August 2, 2008 at 10:55 pm | #

  5. It looks fantastic… although when you hit another car because you were staring at it, it probably wouldn’t seem as cool.

  6. I must say it looks equally as impressive “in the flesh” - and great to see it’s now being shared with the world online ;)

  8. Dude, if this is the “coolest thing” you have seen all week and you have “had an interesting week” then you need to get out more!

  9. Nice, but in what sense is it stereoscopic?

  10. Very clever use to navigate the cars inside this parking area. I suppose it was very entertaining for the artist to create this painted words.

  15. I hate to be a pedant, but the author clearly has no idea what Stereoscopic means. This is anamorphic projection. 3D has nothing to do with this, stereoscopy even less so.

  16. I should not be looking at this drunk

  17. I think the beauty of this is that if you are coming from the wrong direction, you won’t be able to read it. It seems that if you were to actually be driving around, you would see the words with enough time to make the turn in the direction you needed to go.

  18. Wow that looks really cool, but I think some people might find it confusing. Seeing the photographs verses the real thing might not have the same effect.

  26. It’s not hard at all. You just project the words you want using a projector. Then you paint where the projection is showing.

  32. Wow you need nerves of steel to drive straight at the signs but once you get close it just devolves into a pattern on the wall and floor. Please advise on the accident rate!

  35. I seriously think they’re all photoshopped.

you never see anyone interacting with the designs, and they all seem very bright and saturated with color. you would think they would be dirty and kinda grungy being in a parking garage and all. kind of like the rest of the scenery in the pictures.

I mean, it wouldn’t be too hard to photoshop it.
