Apparently these little suckers are really hard to track down as students and motorists in Pennsylvania found out. A construction sign on East College Avenue by the Penn State Campus displayed “Stay Safe PA” followed by “Check for Smegma”. Obviously this caught some drivers off guard as Smegma (I giggle just typing that) is usually a term used for… errr… um… ejaculatory secretions, which, strange as it may sound, are commonly found on college campuses. However the term, according to Cory Miller, executive director of the University Area Joint Authority noted that it was “also has a meaning for highway conditions, when it first starts raining, there is that oil sheen on the surface of the road. That is a term used.”
Now I’ve been driving for the better part of twenty years and to my knowledge “smegma” only has one meaning and it’s got nothing to do with hazardous road conditions.
