SEMA 2008: Mercedes-Benz Urban Whip GLK

Tuned by Boulevard Customs, the Mercedes-Benz Urban Whip GLK is but one of the four GLK aftermarket tuners Mercedes brought with them to their inaugural SEMA appearance this year. Taking the lyrics, “top down, chrome spinning” quite literally, Boulevard Customs swapped everything north of the GLK’s a-pillar out in exchange for custom structural bracing that would support a roofless body, and outfitted the GLK with the proverbial pair of 26″ Asanti AF 150 chrome wheels. Just in case your teeth weren’t already rattled enough when the low profile tires hit that errant pebble in the road head-on, Boulevard Customs has also equipped the Urban Whip GLK with a 5,700 watt JL Audio system replete with 8 HD amps and six JL 13TW5 flat subwoofers.

Apparently, the name “Urban Whip GLK” was chosen as a last resort after both “Egregious Lack of Taste” and “Black Stereotype” were found to be already in use.

  5. @Ryan, Sam & Spike: Oh please guys, get real. I’ve seen the other cars Boulevard Customs has tuned, so I already know you’re kickass at what you do. Unfortunately, you hit a sour note with this GLK. Mercedes is supposed to be about high-class luxury but that Urban Whip is about as high class as a city bus, and judging by the size of those rims it’ll ride about as smooth as one too. I wasn’t attempting to polish my stand-up routine, I was being honest. All the talent you guys have and the best you could do was something straight out of Pimp My Ride? Come on.

  6. Suzanne,
First of all, thak you for the compliments on our work.
I guess you haven’t seen Mercedes press release about the GLK Tuner Challenge. Blvd was given the theme “Urban Whip”.
The goal was to build a vehicle that would appeal to the Urban crowd.
Considering a well known rapper saw it and Blvd is now in talks with his agents for an upcoming video, I think Blvd hit the nail on the proverbial head.
