Seattleites Take SLUTs To Work

Posted in Newsworthy by Suzanne Denbow | October 6th, 2008 | 2 Responses |

No, it’s not a new twist on Casual Friday, it’s the unfortunate acronym for the South Lake Union Trolley, a new public transit system in one of Seattle’s neighborhoods. After initial newspaper reports sparked junior high-esque giggles over the obvious acronym, “trolley” was quickly abandoend in favor of “streetcar.” SLUT apparently stuck, however, and caused no small stir in the neighborhood.

As if often the case with SLUTs in general, Mayor Greg Nickels was reported as saying, “People can call it whatever they want as long as they ride it.”

I live in Seattle and I honestly think they did that on purpose, I like to think we have a sense of humor about ourselves here. And frankly I don’t want to meet the man that takes public transportation seriously.

  2. Mayor Greg Nickels is the man who takes public transportation all too seriously. He is what was once called a “limousine liberal” (a phrase coined for the late, former mayor of New York, John Lindsey) and is a man who does the Democratic party no favors by calling it his party of choice.

Furthermore, Mayor Nickels believes in making his city as dense as possible, most especially around areas where the choo-choo train known as Sound Transit’s Sounder will someday roll if the Feds – Federal government, not the Federal Reserve – fully fund his dream. He is also hoping that the citizens of Seattle are willing to pass Proposition One to give Sound Transit a better line of credit than Ben Bernanke offered failing – failed? – financial institutions last week.

Mayor Nickels might call himself a Democrat, but he is really nothing more or less than a fascist, a modern day Mussolini who believes in government, since it has always been “berry berry good to him” (borrowing a phrase from an old Garrett Morris SNL routine).

The SLUT is a major boondoggle that was funded, in part, by Senator Patty Murray who got her pals in Congress to give $1.1 million dollars of Federal (government) funding to build that little trolly, so that Vulcan real estate holdings – owned by co-founder of Microsoft, Paul Allen – could get enhanced value for its properties.

So the idea of helping out people with money, keep their money, didn’t just happen in Washington D.C. last week. It’s been going on in Seattle, for some time. And that little trolley that could, is a big part of it.

Now, that’s just my opinion and I may be wrong. This is also from Seattle to RideLust.com.
