For one thing, those things were actually useful, a lot of business use them instead of a van, locksmiths, aquarium cleaners, milkmen, they were simple and utilitarian if you didn't check any of the expensive boxes on the order form, and stuck with the 90hp engine. Unfortunately that's not what Toyota had in mind at all for the Scion. I liked the old boxy one better.
