I have no idea how I missed this until now, but rest assured I’ll be setting my DVR to tape every school bus oval track race I can find from this point forward. It doesn’t look like the series is real heavy on rules, and rubbing is not only encouraged, but damn near mandatory for survival. Don’t like the pass your opponent just threw down on you? No problem, just spin him and roll him over.
It looks to be affordable, grass roots racing, too. Near as I can tell there aren’t any regulations about roll cage diameter (or even having one), and Nomex appears to be optional. Judging from the condition of some of the busses, bodywork is optional, too, as long as you have sharp, protruding steel bumpers on the front of your bus.
In fact, this is about the manliest form of racing I’ve ever seen. It makes semi-tractor racing seem like a sport for prima donnas, and dirt track car racing just seems so dull after five laps of full-on bus carnage. I think I’ll start trolling Craigslist for used school busses. If I park it in the backyard, maybe the wife won’t even notice.
