Ridelust Review: 2013 BMW X6 M
This year’s New York Auto Show runs from April 22 through May 1; we’ve still got Geneva to get through first, but rumors are already flying about what will be shown at the next significant North American show. Motor Authority is reporting that Jeep will debut the new SRT8 version of the Grand Cherokee in New York, and that’s a good thing since we’re fond of the quasi-sensible hoonmobile. In addition to a better looking new body style, the updated Grand Cherokee SRT8 gets the 6.4 liter Hemi V8, good for 470 horsepower and mated to a paddle shift five speed automatic transmission. Ensuring the power gets to the ground, all SRT8 Cherokees come standard with AWD.
Suspension is said to be “active damping”, and rumor has it that a performance oriented version of Jeep’s “QuadraLift” pneumatic suspension will be used. There’s even speculation on performance, with 0 to 60 coming up in the low fours and a quarter mile time of under 13 seconds. That seems awfully fast for something as heavy as the Grand Cherokee, even if it does pack 470 horsepower under the hood. We’ll give you a full update, including pricing and availability, as soon as Chrysler tells us more.

A top heavy, poor cornering, sports car, plus, it’s a sub par off road vehicle as well. Perfect!
Bob, you miss the point of the Cherokee SRT8; it is to sports cars what a meat cleaver is to a surgeon’s scalpel. It’s a “muscle SUV”, and it’s all about going fast in a straight line on pavement, with four friends along for the ride.
Pointless? Perhaps, but it’s a whole lot of fun to drive.
