The Driver Movie Poster

From the late 1960’s to the mid-1980’s car chase movies were all the rage. Films like Bullitt, The French Connection and The Blues Brothers brought us gritty chase scenes that were light on special effects and big on action. They were raw and very dangerous to film, but that didn’t stop Hollywood from creating some great movie magic. Released in 1978, The Driver starred Ryan O’Neal as a professional car thief and getaway driver whose sole purpose was to allude the authorities. Think of this movie as the predecessor to Jason Statham’s Transporter series. The films best chase sequence involved a 1976 Pontiac Trans Am and a 1977 Chevrolet Stepside pickup. Trans Am’s were used in loads of Hollywood movies back in the day as chase cars, but pickup trucks, not so much. The chase is just over 8 minutes long but trust me when I tell you that it’s totally worth the watch. Click through for the video.
