Cop Car Crash

Ever wonder how suddenly you can lose control of a vehicle on black ice? Pretty damn quick, as this dash cam footage from an Oregon State Trooper shows you. One minute the guy is rolling down the highway, the next he’s t-boning a Toyota pickup truck that looks like it hit a patch of black ice. There wasn’t a road or driveway, so it’s not real likely the driver of the pickup just decided to cross traffic to drive across a field, especially in front of oncoming traffic.

If you watch the data from the vehicle sensors, it looks like the trooper swerved but never hit his brakes. Maybe he did, and the road was simply too slick for the car to slow down, which is perhaps the worst feeling you can experience behind the wheel. A full on impact at 55 miles per hour isn’t something I’d care to experience, and I certainly hope both drivers escaped the crash without serious or permanent injury.

Holy crap! And 55 mph isn’t even that fast to be honest, people on the 405 fwy here regularly go 80 mph. Even though 55 mph doesn’t seem fast the impact shattered the front shield; that’s pretty scary. Thankfully the freeways here are divided by lanes and it doesn’t snow here but I think similar accidents happen here too when there is no divider and one driver accidentally crosses the yellow line. Pretty scary stuff!

BF, it just shows how quickly something can go from perfectly normal to absolutely puckering behind the wheel…
