Planes, Trains And Automobiles

I hope our Volt is better equipped. Seats would be a nice touch.

Well, planes and automobiles, at least. If you notice that Mike and I have a few posts less than usual, it’s because we’re on the road, courtesy of General Motors. We’ve been invited to drive the Chevy Volt from Manhattan to Detroit starting on Monday morning, and Chevy even promised to put us up in a decent hotel and feed us along the way. I missed a chance to drive the serial hybrid Volt earlier this month, so I can’t wait to get behind the wheel. As far as electric vehicles go, the Volt represents the best blend of practical, real world range and environmental friendliness for the near future.

That's more like it.

Ironically, the Volt won the Southern Automotive Media Association “Car of the Year” at the South Florida Auto Show, just as I was booking my travel. Love it or hate it, I think it really does represent the dawn of a whole new era in the automotive world. Is it perfect? No, but Mike and I will let you know how good it is after the trip. I promise lots of pictures, a few on-the-road stories, and an honest opinion of the Volts strengths, weaknesses and fuel economy. Stay tuned.
