North Korean Government Employs Smoking Hot Traffic Cops

Surprisingly a far cry from Korea’s traditional Confucianism-based political structure, the female traffic cops in Pyongyang are hot enough to stop traffic - literally.

So enjoy, and please excuse the poignant commentary of the filmmakers, Harry Dunne and Lloyd Christmas.

Maybach Thumbs Distinctive Nose At Failing Economy

2009 Maybach 62S Landaulet

Despite rumors that sales of the uber-luxury Maybach sedan have slowed to a death march, Daimler CEO Dr. Dieter Zetsche has reassured rabid fans of the line [namely, Busta Ryhmes and Rick Ross] that Maybach is here to stay. Furthmore, Zetsche also maintains that despite reporting a sales total of only 146 Maybach’s in 2007, the line is not losing money. Impressively, Zetche and Damlier plan to put their money where their mouth is, cementing their devotion to the Maybach line with plans to introduce a new drop-top model, the Maybach 62S Landaulet. Priced at a conservative $1.35 million [approximately 2 platinum club bangers and/or 4 Lil' Wayne remixes], the new Landaulet will compete with the new offerings surfacing from fellow luxury brands like Bentley and Rolls Royce.

Ford, GM Close Business Day With Biggest Stock Loss In Decades

[Stock footage of perpetually panicking investors courtesy of TIME.com]

At the close of the business day on Wall Street today, the Dow industrial average had dropped a total of 678.91 points, taking the auto industry with it on its downward spiral. Posting the biggest loss since 1950, GM closed today with shares at $4.76, measuring a 31% drop in value. Ford, which hit a 25-year low on Wednesday, today posted a 22% lost with shares closing at $2.08. In the wake of the staggering devaluation, the combined stock market value of two-thirds of the powerful Detroit 3 has sunk to well under $10 billion. To put that in perspective: Toyota Motor Corps was worth an estimated $106 billion dollars as of Wednesday, despite posting a 40% loss during the last year.

Essentially, the gaps that were present in Detroit’s model line-up are now leaking the most revenue, it’s not exactly surprising that the Prius’ mother ship is managing to tread water in the midst of the market downturn. Bottom line: once you hit rock bottom, there’s no where to go but up. Just sit tight guys - we will get through this. Read more!

Sly Stallone Spotted In A Phaeton, A Phantom, And A Scaglietti

Between Rambo and Rocky, Sly must make a killing [groan], because photos and video footage have cropped up recently of the action movie buff behind the wheel of a VW Phaeton, a Rolls Royce Phantom, and a Ferrari 612 Scaglietti.

Initially, I was heavily skeptical of the Phaeton sighting, but once you get a load of those lips and hear his gruff request for “no video”, there’s no denying it’s him. As for the Rolls sighting, the picture clearly captures Stallone’s front profile, no doubt that’s definitely the champ getting behind the wheel. The Ferrari, eh, I’m not so sure - the shot is so vague it could be Jose Conseco for all I know. Hit the jump to see for yourself Read more!

Spied: 2010 BMW Z4 Caught Undercover In L.A.

On his way to work this morning, TheTorqueReport ’s Marc Carter caught an impromptu glimpse of the highly anticipated 2010 Z4. Definitely bigger then the current Z4, preliminary specs indicate the next-gen Z4 will ride on the 3-series platform and will most likely feature similar engine options. Like the model spotted this morning, Z4 prototypes have been glimpsed wearing retractable hard-tops, though word out of Germany confirms a soft-top option will be available as well.

The impromptu photo shoot was snapped via Carter’s iPhone, apparently during the morning L.A. grind, so cut him a break on the quality.

Catalytic Converter Thieves Lead L.A. Police On High Speed Chase

In Los Angeles, CA, two men suspected of stealing a catalytic converter from a vehicle led police on a high-speed pursuit down the eastbound Ventura Freeway. After their getaway truck lost control, slamming into a roadside barrier, one of the men attempted to flee on foot. Both men were eventually arrested and taken to jail.

Moral of the story, kids: while it is possible to outrun a Crown Vic, there’s nothing faster than a two-way radio and a Robinson R44 Raven II.

TV Cars: The Lotus Seven from The Prisoner

Supposedly, Patrick McGoohan picked the Lotus Seven because it had a more rebellious quality about it that fit the premise of The Prisoner. If McGoohan had chosen the original Lotus Elan he had planned, or some other car for the title sequence, there might not be over 160 companies offering replicas and Seven-type cars over the years. Who knows, we might not even have the Ariel Atom, which is clearly Lotus-inspired. He put the Seven on the map.

The Lotus Seven was an interesting car. It had fantastic low end acceleration for the time, since it was so light (a bit over 1100 pounds), but only had a top speed of around 90 mph. As time went on, the weight and engine size increased, culminating in the Super Seven which had a 1.7 liter engine.

Spy Shots: 2010 Ford Taurus Spotted [Rimshot]

The current Ford Taurus bears a downright uncanny resemblance to the Ford Five Hundred, and Ford design chiefs have been working overtime to change that. Unusual for any automaker, Ford has announced the Ford Taurus will get a makeover for 2010, which Ford CEO Allan Mullay describes as ““the one we should have made originally.”

Despite heavy camouflage that makes it anyone’s guess, Ford has revealed that the new Taurus will draw heavily from European inspiration, sharing very little with previous models. Cloaked under slimming black, spy shots snapped by Brenda Priddy (via LeftLaneNews) reveal that Ford wasn’t kidding - this new beast from the East looks nothing like the Taurus of legends told.

Lori Delgado Resigns After Affair With Co-Anchor Sours, Leads To Scratched Lexus

This week, NBC 10 Philadelphia anchorwoman Lori Delgado formally resigned from her post after an affair with former co-anchor, Vince DeMentri, turned sour. According to reports, DeMentri and Delgado were engaged in an illicit affair with one another until one of the lovers (presumably Delgado), ended the relationship. Shortly thereafter, Delgado became the victim of an odd series of events, including the apparently malicious reorganization of her desktop as well as the vandalism of her Lexus while parked in the NBC10 lot. In relation to the events, Delgado’s former lover was questioned, ultimately yielding to Dementri’s dismissal from the station in August. On September 16, a praecipe was entered the Philadelphia Common Pleas Court by DeMentri’s attorney, naming both Delgado and an NBC security official amongst complaints of, “libel, slander and misrepresentation.”

On Tuesday, NBC 10’s new director, Chris Blackwell, issued a memo addressing “I wanted to let you let you know that Lori Delgado has resigned from NBC10 to spend more time with her family. We thank Lori for her contributions to the station and wish her well.” Read more!

Ford’s Volvo Subsidiary Cuts 6,000 Jobs - Triple Their Planned Number

US Auto sales dropped almost 30% last month, and four out of the five biggest car makers in Europe had declining sales as well. Things look bad for the auto industry. But it’s a good thing, lean times strip the dead weight, allow only the best and most efficient companies to survive. The industry will come out the other side stronger.

It’s still tough though, Ford Motor’s Volvo subsidiary tripled the number of jobs it planned to cut to 6,000 positions, or 25 percent of its work force. That’s 4,000 more than the original 2,000 job cuts it announced in June. The job cuts are part of a plan to lower expenses by $560 million dollars.
