DRIVE Shakedown

The Shakedown crew from Youtube’s DRIVE network went down to cover the Rolex 24 Hours at Daytona this past weekend, and even though super host Leo Parente donned a nuclear green shirt, he still managed to get some awesome interviews. Combine that with amazing race footage and video and you can see why Shakedown is becoming our premier source for anything and everything that happens in the racing community.

2012 Fiat 500 Sport: RideLust Review

2012 Fiat 500 Sport

Thumbs Up: Go-kart-like low speed handling.

Thumbs Down: Needs more power.

Buy This Car If: You want a frugal commuter that’s still fun to drive.

Fiat exited the U.S. market in 1984, a victim of declining market share caused by both the Japanese brands and the changing habits of the American consumer. After decades of offering affordable-yet-entertaining Italian cars like the X/19 and the Fiat 124 Spider, the quirky Italian automaker’s absence was noted primarily by devotees of the brand. American consumers instead bought trucks and SUVs, or dependable-but-bland econoboxes from Japanese automakers. Read More…

Can One Car Do it All?

Posted in Best of, Car Buying, General, Rants & Raves by MrAngry | January 30th, 2012 | 10 Responses |

Do it All Car

If you’re into motor sports, you’re on a budget, and you can only afford one car, then the odds of you wanting something that can do it all are probably pretty high. This is exactly where I fall and I’ll be honest, it’s a total bitch trying to find the right ride. For instance, say you have a budget of $30K and you’re looking for something with 4 seats, great track manners and overall usability. The choices are unfortunately somewhat limited. Cars like Subaru’s WRX and the Mazda Speed3 kinda’ fit the bill, but at days end they’ll always leave you wanting more and are cramped inside. Then there’s the Ford Mustang GT. A car with gobs of power and a decent suspension, but back seats that will only fit those with no legs. I thought I’d found a solution in my Dodge Magnum SRT8, but while fast and totally usable, it handles like a tugboat on the racetrack. So the question remains, is there truly a do it all automobile?

Eastern European Thrill Ride

I’ve always wondered about people who are selective with their safety gear. For instance, I’ve seen countless motorcyclists riding in full leathers, but they forgo wearing a helmet. By the same token, I’ve seen guys riding with shorts and a t-shirt while their helmet costs more than their bike. Seriously what’s the logic here? Regardless, I began to wonder about this as I watch this guy slide around in an open parking lot in what looks to be one of the coolest go-karts I’ve ever seen. It’s got a fully build chassis, gigantic rear wheels and a big ole’ straight-six engine up front. There’s no question that this thing is bitchin’, however the safety gear thing still confuses me. Now skip to the 1:20 mart and tell me this doesn’t look like a shitload of fun!

Jeep Jump

If you’re a man then you already know that we come pre-programmed from the womb with a little bit of stupid inside us. As children we try any number of ways to kill ourselves on a daily basis without ever thinking of the consequences. As adults, we do the same thing, but we just count on our medical insurance to bail us out if we really screw ourselves up. There are people however who are always reaching for the gold medal in the stupidity challenge which is why this video is being brought to you today. Once again we are treated to the antics of the N.A.R. (North American Redneck) in their true backwoods habitat. This time however they’re running through the countryside in a few jacked-up Jeeps intent on ending their lives by using the least amount of their brains possible.

GT3 RS 4.0: Last Drive Before Hibernation

Porsche GT3 RS 4.0

The beauty of living in the state of California is that you can drive your hot-rods, exotics and muscle cars year-round. Sure we may get some rain from time to time, but other than that the weather is glorious. Other parts of the world aren’t so lucky though and because of this drivers have to get their kicks in when the weather allows. Chris Harris of Youtube’s DRIVE Network knows exactly what I’m talking about as winter is on the horizon over in the UK. That means soaked and salted roads with driving conditions that are, shall we say, less than stellar. Therefore it seams only fitting that he’d take out one of the greatest super cars of the last 20 years, a Porsche GT3 RS 4.0, for one final drive before Mother Nature closes down the high performance roads for good.

You’re Doing it Wrong: Road Rage Backfire

Road Rage

If you’ve ever been the victim of road rage then you know first-hand just how scary it can be. Sometimes road rage consists of nothing more then someone flipping you the bird, whereas other times it can escalate into a situation that is completely out of your control as other variables can, and often do, interject themselves into the equation. I’m not sure how the following incident began, but I do know that it affected far more people than the original two motorists. In the end, it was simply sheer luck that no one was killed.

Being Buried Alive Sucks…

Avalanche

In the world of extreme sports it’s amazing how fast things can go from “F*CK YEAH!” to “OH F*CK!”. That’s exactly what happened to this unsuspecting snowmobiler as he was walking back to his sled while at Stampede Pass in Washington state. As his friend was ripping up the upper bowl his sled inadvertently caused an avalanche which caught his buddy totally off guard and thus, buried him alive. Thankfully his friends not only knew exactly where he was, but they were able to get to him before he suffocated to death. Avalanche situations can cause the rushing snow to form around a person like concrete completely cutting off movement and oxygen. In short, this guy was one lucky bastard…

What’s Your Longest Oil Change Interval?

Posted in Best of, Garage, General, Guide, Maintenance, Mechanics, Rants & Raves by MrAngry | January 27th, 2012 | 7 Responses |

Oil Sludge

The two most important parts of a car are generally the most neglected. First and foremost are the tires. Seriously, most people could give a shit what kind of rubber they put on their rides even though they fail to realize that tires are what keeps them on the straight and narrow. The second thing is their oil. Now granted the old adage of changing your oil every 3,000 miles doesn’t really apply on today’s cars as they’re usually good for around 5k per change. However I know some people who haven’t changed their oil in 15,000-20,000 miles!! People that’s like the equivalent of eating a stick of butter and a pound bacon everyday and thinking that your heart is not going to eventually explode. Oil is the lifeblood of any car and to ensure your rides longevity it must be tended too regularly. I know the most I’ve gone is about 8,000 miles, but what about you guys… what are your thoughts. Are you still in the 3,000 mile club or do you simply not give a shit and change it once every 2 years…

How Loud is Too Loud?

Pontiac Trans Am

The 1979 Pontiac Trans Am, the Lamborghini Countach and the 1969 Dodge Daytona. Three cars that exhibit characters that are completely outlandish for any automobile of any era. The Trans Am for example, with its big screaming chicken on the hood and t-topped roof is reminiscent of the 1970′s disco scene. The Countach simply screams “I LOVE COCAINE” and the Dodge Daytona, well that was a car designed to go fast when go fast technology didn’t even exist. My point is this; you can still, if you have the means go out and pick-up any one of these cars and drive them all the time.
