One Lap of America: Day 7 – Mid Ohio Sports Car

The wake-up call came at 6:30 am which was about 4 hours too soon for us. I stumbled out of bed and into the shower and immediately knew I was f*cked when I put shampoo on my toothbrush – this is how tired I am. Between the racing, driving, eating shit food and trying to find time to write I can honestly say that this is one tough gig. In reflecting I also wanted to bring back to the forefront the charity for which we’re running this crazy week for. We’ve set-up a website at http://www.roadbackhome.com that benefits our United States Veterans and their families. Every donation that we take in, every dollar that we raise goes directly to them in the hopes that maybe we can improve their lives .

I have to say that the two cars representing our beloved Ridelust.com are performing without flaw. The Charger has been trucking along in all its overweight glory and the Ferrari F430 hasn’t missed a beat either. These cars are road hammers and are quickly getting a reputation for not only being good runners in their class, but stone reliable as well. So far the track and facilities at Mid-Ohio are by far the best we’ve seen. From the stands, to the paddock area, to the overall feel, this place is top notch. I would love to come back and spend a week here.

My buddy UK Chris is out on the track right now trying to rack up some more points for us in the Vintage American Class. He’s wheeling the crap out of the Charger and can really drive a car. The Ferrari, well, it has just come to my attention that Captain Pete “The Dandelion” Cassini has managed to drift it off line and have a four-wheel off, sphincter puckering moment at turn 8. The car is fine, Pete is fine, but that mouth on the Ferrari ate a few weeds on it’s way off course.

As of right now there have been no other casualties that I know of. In fact most of the competitors are kicking ass and taking names in cars that are proving to be VERY dependable. I think there are about 4 or 5 more run groups that go out before we begin our 550 mile run ™to New Jersey Motor Sports Park, I just hope my buddy UK Chris is in one of the earlier ones so we can bust out of here ASAP. Jersey Motor Sports Park promises to be one hell of a great track, the only problem is that it’s so close to NYC and home, so leaving it and heading another 1000 miles back in the other direction is going to be quite a bitch. I’ll keep everyone posted on how we’re doing when we hit Jersey tonight.

Great reports, sounds like it is a little crazy doing the one lap. Doesn’t sound like it is anything like a vacation that is for sure. Hope you are having fun driving on the tracks. I will see you guys in Jersey when you get here. Talk to you then
