Let the video game community rejoice! Gran Turismo 5 officially has a launch date of November 2, 2010. If you’re a gamer then please understand that this is big news as Playstation 3 fans have been waiting for this launch since the system was released 4 years ago. We have sat through delay after delay and teaser trailer after teaser trailer for the announcement of this day. Now, it is VERY possible that Polyphony Digital and Sony are just jerking us around, but that release date would make sense since it’s just in time for the Christmas season. Gran Turismo 5 is not only a halo game for Sony but it’s probably the most well known franchise in the Sony game community. Over the past 4 years games like Forza Motor Sports and Need for Speed Shift have gained a massive audience because GT5 never came to market, so it will be interesting to see what impact that has on GT5s sales numbers.

The new version of Gran Turismo is supposed to have crash damage (something that fans were dying for) and apparently, according to Sony and Polyphony Digital, the game will now be in 3D. So the deal is this, if GT5 does in fact come to market on November 2nd, has 3D capabilities, damage and does all the bullshit we hope it does then the fans of the franchise will rejoice and spend oodles of money. If however Sony and Polyphony Digital screw us though… well then, I would say it would probably be the biggest black eye that Sony has ever gotten. We’ll see…

Personally, I’d like to see more actual gameplay footage from Polyphony. Spiffy trailers are neato and all….but where’s the meat in the meat-sauce? Show me how the cars feel/react. Show me the in-game interactivity. Shiny metal cars are cool, but how is the game play?
