You’ve got to hand it to Nissan for going full throttle at the Germans with their new ad campaign that’s currently running in Britain. They know they’ve got two great sports cars in the form of their 370z and GT-R and by the looks of their ad tactics they are not afraid to step into the ring swinging. For example Nissan decided to take a beautiful Audi TTS and adorn it with the slogan, “More expensive, slower and less powerful than a Nissan 370Z”… DOH! Not kind words from an automaker that usually stays in the shadows.
According to Nissan’s Marketing Director, Steve McLennan, “It simply challenges the convention of German sportscars being the only benchmark for performance and quality,”.
The Audi was also joined by a rather nice Porsche Cayman that said, “I dream of being as fast as a Nissan 370Z”. Ladies and gentleman these be fighting words. Porsche, who was recently called out by MINI and Hyundai has been taking their fair share of hits these days. That is not necessarily a bad thing, because when you’re at the top of your game everyone underneath you is going to try an knock you off the podium. I have a feeling though that Porsche’s threshold level is beginning to wear thin and wouldn’t be surprised if they didn’t issue some kind of retaliation ad in the near future. If I were Nissan though I’d be worried, because with car like the Porsche GT3 RS and Cayman S they’re going to have their hands full.
