New Lexus IS commercial show advertisers have nothing left.

Can someone please tell me what the hell is happening in the world of automotive advertising. I mean is the industry so out of ideas that they are now resorting to our automobiles playing musical instruments to peak our interest in their products? Listen, there is no denying that the new Lexus IS is a nice car, but that doesn’t mean I want to run it through a horde of drum sets to illustrate the fact that I own a performance machine. Commercials like this concern me because it seems that car companies are now relying way too much on their advertising firms, firms that unfortunately are not very fluent in the culture of cars. Now don’t get me wrong, I get the concept, I really do, but instead of showing your automobile doing things that you will never do (nor will anyone else for that matter), how about simply showing it in the environment for which it’s meant to be in. That being the real world. This is just my two cents here, but I think I’m pretty dead on.

…I agree with you Mr. Angry, instead of showing some stupid demonstration about music and a car, why not tell the potential customer about qualtiy, fit, finish, durability, and materials used in production, just to name a few things…. These are things smart consumers care about, not some drums in a warehouse set up by a “drum tech” …what is that job title anyway? lol

They might be running out of ideas but it is still a really cool commercial imo

exactly….focus more on the car, and save money and time and use a pre-recorded soundtrack!

now thats what i call a drum machine

You couldn’t be more WRONG Mr Angry!! I would bet my life you are not a musician OR a drummer. You obviously can’t make the correlation between the dynamics and FEEL of drum playing and how it relates to the suspension and feel of a tight car. Dont you see Lexus was purposefully targeting a different audience than a meathead like yourself?

Games like Guitar Hero and Rockband have created a boom in instrument sales you can’t even begin to fathom, obviously. Digitally created music is being DESTROYED in the pop charts right now by music made with REAL INSTRUMENTS and authentic singer songwriters again. Real drums and real instrumentation are cool again, and this commercial reaches an entirely different bracket who don’t really care whats under the hood. Namely, me. You have failed miserably your first test from Advertising 101 Mr Angry. Dont advertise for the people who already know what your selling!! Same goes for you Longevity. Your post demonstrates you ignorance of truly effectie advertising. Have fun being uninformed fellas!!
