NASCAR Nationwide Series Rolls Out New Cars At Daytona

Posted in Chevrolet, Dodge, Ford, General, Mustang, NASCAR, Racing, Toyota by Kurt Ernst | July 3rd, 2010 | Leave a Reply |

Nationwide Series fans will have one more thing to cheer about at this weekend’s Subway Jalapeno 250 powered by Coca-Cola: the Ford Mustang and Dodge Challenger body styles will make their competition debut. The Mustangs and Challengers will be used in four Nationwide events this year, and will become a permanent fixture in 2011.

While nowhere near identical to their production counterparts, the new cars look enough like their namesakes to draw in brand loyalist support. Toyota and Chevrolet will introduce new Nationwide series bodies as well, but the change from current body styles will be less radical. Feedback from Nationwide series fans prompted the new body styles.

For now, the new body styles will be used in the Nationwide series only, but enough support from Sprint Cup fans and team owners could change that. Let’s hope so; while it’s no return to racing stock cars, at least unique body styles would let fans cheer for a representation of their favorite cars.

Tip of the hat to Dave for the link.
