If you’re into bikes, then sooner or later you need to make the pilgrimage to the annual Quail Motorcycle Gathering in Carmel, California. Held at the Quail Lodge Golf Club, the event is to motorcycles what the Pebble Beach or Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance events are to fine automobiles. If it’s on two wheels and rare or historically significant, chances are good it will eventually be displayed at the Quail Motorcycle Gathering. There’s too much to cover in a 3:40 video, but Motorcycle USA did a great job in covering the highlights of this year’s event. Watch their recap in the video below.
One of the bikes shown at this year’s event was Falcon Motorcycles’ “Black Falcon”, which Dustin previously featured in a picture-filled article. Also on display was Rollie Free’s Vincent Black Lightening, which the nearly-naked rider took to 150.3 miles per hour at the Bonneville Salt Flats. Think planking is a new phenomenon? Rollie Free used planking to reduce aerodynamic drag and increase his top speed, and it takes a special kind of crazy to ride at a buck fifty, on salt, in a bathing suit and bathing cap.
