Fastlane specializes in tuning modern muscle cars like the Dodge Challenger and Chevy Camaro. Their latest project is a turbo kit for the 2011 5.0 liter Ford Mustang, and the above video (found by Inside Line) shows one of their guys getting his freak on with the new Ford Coyote motor. The good news is there’s lots to like about the new design, including oil spray under the pistons to reduce high speed temps, galleried rod end bushings to promote oil from, domed pistons with a friction-reducing coating on the skirts and roller followers with attached lifters to promote better high RPM performance. In short, Ford has really done a great job on the 5.0 liter Coyote motor, which should respond well to tuning and should prove to be a durable mill.

The bad news is that there’s some attention to detail missing on the block casting; Fastlane found a few burrs and didn’t like the roughness of the aluminum casting. If that’s all you can find about a motor that’s negative, I’d say that a pretty damn impressive motor.

Anyway, enjoy the vid. I’m a sucker for motor tear down videos, especially when it’s from a car I’m lusting after. I’m driving the 2011 Ford Mustang GT this week, so I’ll have a full write up for you on it late next week.
