Moar Wheels: Eliica Electric

Posted in Bizarre, Commuter Cars, Concept Cars, Electric Cars by Dustin Driver | May 20th, 2010 | 1 Response |

The Panther 6 I wrote about was hideously spectacular due to its gigantic twin-turbocharged Cadillac V-8 and ’70s retro-future looks. The Eliica electric car, made by Hiroshi Shimizu of Keio University in Tokyo, is great because it looks like a cyber pillbug and has two more wheels. It also has eight big electric motors and goes like stink. Top speed, 230 miles per hour. I bet charging it’s a bitch. Shimizu built it in 2007 and I’m sure you’ve seen it already, but I thought you might need a reminder of its lunacy. Hit the jump for a cheesy video of it in action.

Not sure why they went with 8 wheels over 4. Seems like unnecessary weight, complexity and expense to me.
