Mikko Hirvonen is currently third in the WRC Driver’s Championship points. As he demonstrates in this video, sometimes even the best drivers make mistakes. In roadracing, this generally results in a spin and the loss of a few positions. In the WRC, this usually results in the kind of heinous crash usually found in movies like “Red Asphalt” or “Faces of Death”.

The crash occurred in Friday’s special stage of the Neste Oil Rally Finland. The good news is that both Hirvonnen and his co-driver, Jarmo Lehtinen, walked away from the crash with no significant injuries. The bad news is that they’re out for the remiander of the event, which won’t help in Hirvonon’s fight for the WRC driver’s championship.
