If you’ve been siphoning gas from your neighbor’s car and living on generic ramen noodles to save enough cash for a McLaren MP4-12C, I’ve got good news for you. McLaren Automotive has just announced 35 dealerships worldwide, including 8 in North America. If you live on this side of the pond, you’ll be able to buy a McLaren in Chicago, Dallas, Los Angeles, Orange County (California), Miami, New York, Philadelphia, San Francisco, Tampa and Toronto. Sadly, Florida gets two dealerships but does not have a single entertaining road in the entire state. Colorado, on the other hand, gets no dealerships but has a disproportionate percentage of the country’s entertaining roads. It all comes down to building dealerships where the money is.
Europe will get a total of 13 dealerships, which seems unfair since the entire EU would fit in the state of Texas (not really, I’m just using artistic license). The Middle East and South Africa get eight dealerships, and four are planned for the Asia Pacific Region.
With a build capacity of approximately 1,000 MP4-12C automobiles per year, McLaren already has better than a two year production backlog. The MP4-12C will hit dealer showrooms in the spring of 2011.
