When you’re one of the fastest F1 drivers in the world, it’s hard to find a road car that does it for you. Jenson Button is partial to the McLaren MP4-12C, and Fernando Alonso drives a Maserati Gran Turismo Convertible. Mark Webber, it turns out, has a thing for Porsches, and recently acquired a 911 GT2 RS. Just in case that doesn’t sound familiar, the 911 GT2 RS is the fastest road-going car that Porsche has ever built. It puts out some 620 horsepower (to the rear wheels only) and has lapped the Nürburgring in 7:18, which makes the car faster around the Green Hell than a Ferrari Enzo or a Pagani Zonda F Clubsport. Not bad for a car that looks like an “average” 911. Video of Webber showing his skills behind the wheel below.
The GT2 RS runs $245,000, but that’s irrelevant since the car is sold out. As for the lucky winners of a lap around Silverstone with Webber at the wheel, better you than me. When it comes to hot laps on racetracks, I’m not a good passenger, but toss me the keys and take the passenger seat, and I’m fine with that. One on one driving lessons from Mark Webber, in a 911 GT2 RS at Silverstone? Yes, please.
