McLaren MP4-12C on DRIVE

The McLaren MP4-12C packs 600 hp and 442 lb-ft of torque. It goes 0-124 mph in 9.1 seconds and then onto a top speed of 206 mph. It’s the little brother of the famed McLaren F1, a car that is perhaps one of the top 5 performance automobiles ever built. Therefore when McLaren decided to build the MP4-12C they knew that they had some serious shoes to fill. However where the F1 was on the verge of being a pure race car, the MP4-12C was designed to be a pure sports car that could be used on a daily basis. Chris Harris of Youtube’s DRIVE network recently took McLaren’s new play toy out to give it a proper flogging and came away with some very interesting insights.

The MP4-12C makes use of an active aerodynamics in the rear of the car that functions as an air brake to enhance stability during braking at high RPMs, just similar to the new SLR McLaren.
