If it sounds like Morpheus from The Matrix is pitching Cadillacs, that’s because Morpheus from The Matrix IS pitching Cadillacs these days. Laurence Fishburne is the new pitchman for Cadillac, who’ll roll out these commercials during the Superbowl. The commercials are clearly aimed at a new demographic, while retaining some viability with their existing customer base. How else do you explain pitching world class performance and luxury in the same ad, which starts by mocking the stereotypical luxury car buyer?
I’m not sure I get the “archer drawing his bow” inspiration for the styling of the CTS-V coupe, but then again I can’t understand art unless it features cars, naked women or dogs playing poker. If you’ve driven the 556 horsepower coupe, you know how good it is and how hard it accelerates. Who cares what inspired an engine that accelerates like the hand of God, moving you through space and time? I know the “arrow” video was created using CGI, but it looks like fun to me. I’ve never driven a CTS-V coupe through the desert, dodging razor-sharp, broad-head arrows, but I’m certainly willing to give it a try.
