Latest Mercedes Benz Ad Pokes Fun At F1 Drivers

Just in case you’re not a fan of Formula One, here’s some background: the guy driving the Mercedes-Benz wagon is none other that Finnish F1 superstar Mika Häkkinen, who won the F1 World Driver’s Championship in 1998 and 1999, and was one of the competitors most feared respected by Michael Schumacher. Häkkinen retired from F1 after the 2001 season, but returned to racing in the DTM series in 2005. He retired from competition in 2008, and now spends his time coaching new drivers and managing their careers.

The driver of the drop-top SL is, of course, Michale Schumacher, the seven time F1 World Champion. I’m not sure if the “Sunday driver” comment is meant to be a nod to Schumi’s former and current occupation, which pays him money to drive on Sunday. On the other hand, it could be a remarkable cruel taunt at his disastrous 2010 return to F1 racing, since the Germans have that kind of a sense of humor.

I’m not sure who’s driving the G-Wagen, but I’m sure she’s a celebrity as well. This gets my vote for the funniest car ad of 2010, and a tip of the hat goes to Carscoop for finding this one first. Enjoy.

Vielen Dank für die Link! Aside from myself (who saw Beckenbauer play with the NY Cosmos in 1977), I doubt very many people in the US even know who Franz Beckenbauer is.
