The preying on the carcass that was once noble GM continues with a report that Kia is looking to expand into markets previously held by Saturn. According to Automotive News, in one scenario, the Korean automaker is either looking to open or move dealerships into areas recently vacated by Saturn or will try to partner with those dealerships left standing after the automaker breaks from GM.
Following successful unveiling of the Soul and Forte models, Kia is looking to keep consumers minds on the usually irrelevant Korean brand by looking to move into existing or already closed Saturn stores or asking Saturn dealers about adding an adjacent Kia store. In many cases, existing Saturn dealerships are in much better areas than Kia currently.
Despite the big splash more recent models have received, Kia perenially ranks near the bottom of J.D. Power & Associates’ Customer Satisfaction Index while Saturn is consistently ranked in the top ten. Whether any of this goodwill towards Saturn can rub off on Kia is another story.
