Here’s the first in a series of new videos to be released by the Monster Energy World Rally Team, highlighting Ken Block’s skills at flogging his WRC Ford Focus in the dirt. Unfortunately, the race in Portugal ended early for Block and his navigator, Alex Gelsomino, when they rolled the car on Stage 4 and damaged the structural integrity of the roll cage. Block had started the event particularly strong after tying former F1 World Driving Champion Kimi Raikkonen for first place in the opening event.
T The ultimate reason for testing is to uncover weaknesses in the equipment and set up. No one questions Block’s ability to handle a car, and Gelsomino has worked with Block for several years. So where’s the problem with the Monster Energy Team? Apparently in the pace notes, since WRC uses a different system for pace notes than the Rally America Championship. Like any new team, there’s a learning curve, and Block and Gelsomino know where they need to focus to improve their performance. Next up for the Monster WRC team is the Rally of Germany on August 20 to 22, which will be Block and Gelsomino’s first stage on tarmac. Stay tuned for more testing videos from the Monster Energy team.
