We noticed this curious picture floating around the internet recently. It’s strange, like one of those pictures you’d see on digg or reddit with 4 million hits on it. But this picture actually has a purpose behind it.
This photo is drawing attention to the Wrong Way Round campaign, a charity ride where a man named Graham Merrick will ride a BMW bike 1000km through the rough and rugged South Africa terrain in hopes of raising money and awareness of four main charities: UNICEF, Nelson Mandela’s Children’s Fund, Sentable, and Touch Africa.
Now, if you’re still wondering what the robot is all about, well, I’ll explain that, too.
The Wrong Way Round campaign is specifically Merrick’s own twist on his participation in Enduro Africa, an event which, as part of Global Enduro, attempts to transport medical personnel into dangerous and hard-to-reach areas via motorcycle to provide medical care to those in need.
Graham Merrick has already raised a substantial amount of money, but to draw even more funds, he has devised a clever scheme: to complete the aforementioned 1000km 8-day ride with a large humanoid robot facing the wrong way around behind him.
