You’d expect the reigning F1 champion to have a proper sports car ride, determined by the manufacturer behind his F1 team. In the case of Jenson Button, you’d expect him to drive an SLS AMG Mercedes, or maybe a more practical sedan like the S63 AMG. You’d be wrong, though, because Jenson Button has requested a roomy, sensible Mercedes station wagon as his daily driver and grocery getter.
Before you think that Button’s going soft on us, Motor Authority points out that his ride of choice is no ordinary station wagon. In fact, Mercedes is building just 21 of them, and none will be headed to this side of the pond. The car in question is a Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG DR 520 Estate, and it puts out 520 horsepower at the wheels. That’s enough to get Button to 60 miles per hour in about four seconds, on his way to the grocery store. Rest assured, he’ll be getting the ice cream home before it melts.
The DR 520 kit also includes bigger brakes, forged pistons with stronger connecting rods and a beefed up crankshaft. The car comes with a satin wrap in lieu of paint, and buyers get to choose between black or white with titanium colored wheels. While I’m sure Button got a deal on his, if you haven’t won a world driving championship the price of admission starts at just under $99,000.
