Is The Jeep Wrangler The Toughest Vehicle In The World?

Posted in Jeep, Off-Roading, Videos by Kurt Ernst | November 8th, 2011 | 7 Responses |

Jeep is proclaiming its “Call of Duty – Modern Warfare 3 Edition” Jeep Wrangler the toughest vehicle in the world, and the staged footage in the video below would tend to support that. On the other hand, staged footage isn’t real life, just like being able to smoke the enemy in COD doesn’t make you a stone cold killer.

An open-top Jeep wouldn’t be my ride of choice when being chased by assault-rifle firing bad guys in a former Soviet bloc military vehicle. Even with a brush guard in place, a Jeep Wrangler isn’t going to emerge unscathed after tangling with a chunk of corrugated steel at 40 mph or so, and an RPG is going to do a bit more damage than what’s portrayed in the video.

I’m not dissing the Jeep Wrangler, since it remains one of the most capable (and durable) SUVs on the planet. Still, when you release a trailer like this, you open yourself up to all kinds of trouble from buyers who wreck their Jeeps driving up stone stairs at 30 miles per hour, facing down a tank, and then going head to head with an attack helicopter.

Since Jeep didn’t pass along this helpful advice, I will: don’t try this stuff at home.

Call of Duty 3 edition. Really?

      Sadly, yes.

This isn’t the worst special edition. The Lara Croft Tomb Raider edition Land Rover was the worse, by a large margin. Sadly they also made a Jeep version as well.

Also, in regards to having an open top jeep in combat, it’s not as crazy as you’d think. Marine Recon rolls around in open top Jeeps and G-Wagons in combat. I’ve even seen a few topless humvees being used by ODF.

And lastly, I’d take a Jeep before a G-Wagon. You can fix anything on a Jeep quickly with some 550 cord and duct tape. The G-Wagons are a lot more temperamental, and it’s much more difficult to secure parts for them in country.

I don’t really see why basic fixes like that wouldn’t work on a G-wagon.. Plus I have too many friends with dilapidated jeeps, and they always seem to be that car sittin on the side of the road… In any case though I own a landcruiser and that thing would go to hell and back 400000 kms and counting. Only thing that doesn’t work perfectly anymore is the aftermarket stereo haha.

I would put my money on a land cruiser or a Merc G-wagon wayyyyy before a jeep. hahaha ya call of duty edition is sad. I couldn’t take the owner seriously…
