Man these Koreans are feisty aren’t they… I mean first Hyundai comes out and challenges MINI at their own game when Porsche blew them off and now they’re calling out Honda. Have these guys taken steroids or are their engineers just doing P90X? Either way though I want to know what gives. In their latest call out Hyundai Motor America president John Krafcik tells us that their upcoming 2012 Hyundai Veloster sports coupe (the name is still up for debate) will best Honda’s new 2011 CR-Z hybrid in the mileage department by getting 40 mpg or better. Right now Honda’s 2011 CR-Z is only rated at 36 mpg city and 39 mpg highway, numbers that for a hybrid aren’t really all that great.
Hyundai is also stating that they’ll be doing this by utilizing a conventional 4-cylinder gas engine as opposed to the gas/electric configuration in the CR-Z. By doing so, and if Hyundai can accomplish this, they’ll not only be besting one of the biggest automakers in the world, but they’ll be able to do it for a lot less money. The Hyundai is also said to have a rear seat and more storage capacity thus making it much more usable. So it seems that Hyundai basically has its sights set on taking over the automotive world as a whole which begs the question, what will they come out with next? I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t extremely curious.
