There's too much at stake here - for the Feds, for the country. A bailout is a done deal. The question is just a matter of how much and when.

But one thing to take note of: they're not fucking around. This is as real as it gets. Just read about the folks in Fennville, Michigan in the November 23, 2008 issue of the New York Times.

And it's highly doubtful that anyone on the 14th floor of the GM Building uses the word, "dude." Maybe they should. It might help their street cred.

My question is, how did GM come to this point? I want to have been in the board room when this discussion came up.

"So, dudes, we're like totally out of money."

"What? Like what happened to the billions we got from selling SUVs and stuff?"

"We... like... spent it, I think."

"Daaamn. Now what do we do?"

"Well, my cousin like totally made a fortune sitting out on the street and asking people for money. What we need to do is do that on a huuuuuuge scale, man."

"Dude. Great idea. Let's get it from the government! Hahaha! That'd be awesome. Okay, Rick-Roll, put your suit on, and head down there. They'll totally buy it, man, totally!"

I've paraphrased it a bit, but I'm pretty sure that's how it went.

I totally agree with your editorial note. Unfortunately, making Rick squirm about and play this up like it's the End of Days may ultimately hurt consumer confidence enough to do them in regardless. Hopefully I'm wrong.

Also, the grandstanding over the private jets was stupid in my opinion.
